FSU Essebeare Farm School
After their initial visit in the Autumn term, the Reception Class were eager to return to Essebeare Farm for their Spring visit last week.
On arrival, our first group were lucky to meet two tiny lambs, just a few hours old. We learnt about their umbilical cord and watched in awe as they suckled from their mother.
The following day, our second group had the opportunity to weigh the lambs and attach their ear tags.
The children were also delighted to meet a newly born calf and loved loading their arms full of hay to ensure the cow making all the milk for her calf was getting a sufficient amount to eat herself. Meeting the sheepdog, the hens and, of course, having a really close look at the tractor were other highlights of our mornings on the farm, and it was great to put our recent Spring time learning about plant lifecycles into context in the orchard. Thank you, as always to Farmer Olly and also to our very own Farmer Reuben!
