UK Parliament Week
This week it has been UK Parliament Week!
The children in all classes across the school have enjoyed finding out about the Houses of Parliament and the job that Members of Parliament (MPs) have. In Class 2 and FSU, we also found out about Guy Fawkes, who tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605.
This week is also COP26, where World Leaders will discuss Climate Change and what we can do to help. We have used this week to discuss Climate Change in school, and the children have all been thinking about things they can do to help the environment. We spent some time talking about this in our House Groups, and we all made pledges of things we will be doing to help.
Our UK Parliament week ended with a visit from Selaine Saxby MP our MP for North Devon. Selaine spent some time looking round our school and then met with our School Council. Our School Council shared their learning about Parliament with Selaine, and were able to ask Selaine some questions about what her job as an MP is like. It was such a wonderful opportunity for the children at Witheridge School, particularly as Selaine told us we were the only school that she was visiting. Perhaps we have the next MP for North Devon in our midst, or maybe even the next Prime Minister!
