Eco Schools

At Witheridge C of E Academy, we are passionate about environmental education. We have signed up to ‘Let’s Go Zero’, the national campaign uniting teachers, pupils, parents and their schools as we all work together to be zero carbon by 2030. Our school Eco Council have taken several steps this year towards this goal:

· Appointing Eco Rangers – these children have taken on responsibility for leading and developing our school to become more environmentally friendly

· Completing a waste audit with Devon Resource Futures and subsequently installing new food waste bins in different locations around the school

· Operating a Terracycle project, enabling the school and wider community to recycle their bakery waste

· Completing an Environmental Review of our school grounds

· Developing an Eco Action Plan

Our whole school took part in The Big Green Week this year, writing pledges and contacting our local MP, Selaine Saxby, to urge further action from our leaders to tackle climate change.

We have also organised visits from South West Water, enabling children to learn about how to manage this precious resource effectively, and how to take care of our rivers and oceans. Children in Class 3 have taken part in a beach clean at Croyde.

We continue to strive to find more ways to make our school an Eco School, supporting children to become actively involved in making decisions to help our school and wider community become more environmentally friendly. This year we hope to achieve the Eco Schools Green Flag Award.

Do check back for updates to see the latest developments in our journey to becoming zero carbon by 2030.
